Discuss the ways in which gender affects people's health.

What will be an ideal response?

There are biological and social reasons for health advantages women have over men. Biologically, women have greater resistance to some infectious disease and, because of fertility issues, women are more likely than men to see a physician regularly. Socially, men take more risks than women. Women are less likely than men to have health insurance because they are unlikely to be employed full-time. Childbearing is a risk to women and, because women were left out of medical research until 1990, some findings are inconclusive in their outcomes for women. Research tends to put women's needs and health priorities second to men's. Finally, women often receive unfair treatment from male physicians
