What was unique about Freud's view of homosexuality?

What will be an ideal response?

Freud was ahead of his time in believing that homosexuality was not an illness, despite the fact that this was the position taken by many psychoanalysts. While Freud exhibited this accepting view in a letter written in 1935, it was not until the early 1970s that homosexuality was removed from the DSM.
