Define and explain RFID technology and its role in supply chain management.

What will be an ideal response?

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags. An RFID tag is an object that can be stuck on or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. These tags are so small, they can be placed anywhere, even in paper. RFID is used in supply chain management to improve the efficiency of inventory tracking and management, as the tags allow for tracking inventory items so that management knows exactly where each item is located and where it moves throughout a facility.
