Explain the core of a fuel cell system.

The core of a fuel cell system is the reaction zone, usually at some elevated temperature, containing the membrane electrode assemblies and the internal gas supply systems, such as the gas diffusion plates. In addition, the current is produced and gathered in the core and external connection must be provided to the electrical system. This core must be accessible and modular, in that these are the units that will probably need replacement during the life of the fuel cell system. Reaction and current flow monitoring and control are required in this area.
