What are the limitations of Femto cells? Can you conceive of them as a wireless heterogeneous network? Explain clearly.

What will be an ideal response?

Electromagnetic waves get reflected, refracted and scattered due to various
objects in the surrounding environment. These do affect strength of the signal,
especially indoor. Therefore, in some portions of the house, the signal quality may
be very low and that is where Femto cell comes into picture. As most houses are
equipped with internet, local RF signal transmitter/receiver covering a small area,
can provide good signal quality to cell phone. Such capability is known as Femto
cell. Of course, the other end of internet needs to be connected to the back bone of
the cell-phone technology. It is not a heterogeneous network as it is meant for
voice communication for cell-phone and employs only one type of interface.
