What are the categories of risk that police departments face?
What will be an ideal response?
There are three primary areas of risk that must be monitored and controlled, workers’ compensation, law enforcement liability, and police auto liability. Workers’ compensation is initiated when a police officer is injured on the job and incurs medical expenses or lost wages. Law enforcement liability is where police departments are sued for violating people’s rights or unjustifiably causing injury or death to people. Police auto liability refers to the many lawsuits that occur as a result of police involvement in automobile accidents, especially those involving pursuits or responding to calls for service where the responding officer violates traffic codes.
