Electromagnetic radiation is produced by a star. Xiaodan says, "What a bright star!" Fill in the steps between the creation of the energy and Xiaodan's sensation.

What will be an ideal response?

The light created by the star traveled across space for many years. Because the light is electromagnetic radiation, it does not require a medium as sound does so it can travel through the vacuum of space. The pupil would allow the light into Xiaodan's eye where the lens would focus the light on the retina. The photoreceptors in the retina would transduce the light into neural activity. The neural information is then sent to the thalamus where it is recognized as visual information and sent to the occipital lobe. And Xiaodan says, "What a bright star!"
