What is the difference between a magnetoresistive (MR) sensor and a Hall sensor?

What will be an ideal response?

An MR sensor operates in a way very similar to a Hall sensor, and they both have three wires. The only real difference is in the reference voltage. Whereas the Hall-effect sensor receives its 5-volt reference signal from the computer or from the ignition module, the MR sensor creates its own 5-volt signal.
