Discuss the factors that control carbon flux through the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle
Carbon flux through the TCA cycle is regulated by the flux of carbons through glycolysis; the cell redox state; the activation of pyruvate dehydrogenase, which is inhibited by high levels of acetyl CoA; and is activated by the phosphorlyation state of the enzyme, the availability of oxaloacetate, calcium concentration, and the ADP-ATP ratio.
