Discuss the development of mammals of the order Carnivora. What will be an ideal response?
Although the diets of members of the order Carnivora differ greatly, they all eat meat to a
lesser or greater degree. Some of these animals are omnivores, whereas others rarely eat
anything but meat. Most of these animals have well-developed, sharp, pointed canine teeth
and specialized shearing teeth called carnassials. Two distinct groups developed in the
Paleocene: the creodonts and the miacids. Some of the animals in this order, including seals,
sea lions, and walruses, have adapted to the marine environment.
