Describe the stages of career education

Career development suggests that individuals should be presented with information that is related to a variety of situations (i.e., careers) associated with community living. Wehman, Targett, and Richardson (2012) provided a conceptualization of the typical stages of career education: career awareness, career exploration, career preparation, and job placement.
(i) Career Awareness: This phase is focused on making students aware of various careers and occupations. Activities should begin during the elementary years.
(ii) Career Exploration: This key phase typically occurs during the later elementary or middle school or junior high school years when an emphasis is placed on “exploring” careers, occupations, and specific jobs in more detail.
(iii) Career Preparation: This phase is dedicated to preparing a student for a job in which he or she has demonstrated interest.
(iv) Job Placement: This phase involves all of the efforts associated with locating a job for which a person has been prepared and assisting the person in obtaining this job.
