Using the LandRoller skates as an example, explain how the design specifi cations and constraints affected the design concept, implementation, marketability, and commercial profitability.

What will be an ideal response?

LandRoller design specs likely required that the skates must be useable over rough terrain, they must be lightweight and comfortable, durable, attractive and marketable to young people of both genders, and they must be easy to learn to use. Constraints limited development to a certain budget and time frame. In art and in architecture, an axiom states “form follows function.” If form follows function, we can see how design specifications affect the design concept. For example, to be useable over rough terrain, the wheels had to be large; the materials chosen had to be lightweight and recyclable; and marketing costs and materials costs had to fi t the budget.
