Compare and contrast one lose-lose personal conflict style to one win-win conflict style
What will be an ideal response?
Avoiding and compromising are both examples of lose-lose strategies;
collaborating is a win-win strategy. By avoiding a conflict, we remove ourselves from
the conflict and both individuals lose since neither person accomplishes their goals.
Compromising occurs when partners give up what they want and achieve partial
satisfaction in meeting their goals. Partners often feel that compromising forces them to
"settle" by making concessions that neither person is happy about . Collaborating
occurs when we attempt to satisfy both our needs and our partners' needs, resulting in a
win-win situation.
