Define what responsibility means to you. To what extent does Rich's definition of responsibility reflect your own?

What will be an ideal response?

Consider asking students to select the one aspect of Rich's definition that has the most meaning for them. Students selecting the same theme might get into small groups for discussion, with each group finally presenting its ideas to the whole class. Alternatively, students might be asked to come up with an example from their own experience when they didn't adhere to one of the elements of Rich's definition.

Again, watch for the clichés here. Students will be tempted to give you responses they know you want to hear. Students will say things like, "responsibility means being your own person.". Ask them to define exactly what that means and how that will work in a college environment.
