What is “therapeutic misconception” and what is the cause?

What will be an ideal response?

Therapeutic misconception refers to two common, but incorrect beliefs held by participants regarding intervention research that randomly assigns participants to experimental treatment and control group. The first misconception is that their individual needs will be taken into account in condition assignment and the second is that there is a high probability that they will benefit from research participation. These misconceptions may be due to poorly implemented informed consent, underestimation of risk and may be compounded by therapeutic mistrust in underserved or marginalized populations.
