Accountability means being answerable, especially to those who provide the funds, to ensure that stated goals are accomplished. All states now have accountability systems that define a common set of indicators of the performance of K-12 children and schools. Examples will vary, but may mention the Common Core State Standards or other standards systems adopted to ensure children are learning the necessary material and receiving a quality education.
