According to Freud, the ego defends itself against conflicts and anxieties by relegating unpleasant thoughts and impulses to the unconscious. Briefly describe repression, projection, and reaction formation and give an example of each

What will be an ideal response?

Repression is motivated forgetting, rejecting unacceptable thoughts, desires, and memories and banishing them to the unconscious. For example, someone who is troubled by having certain sexual desires might become unaware of them.

Projection is attributing one's own undesirable characteristics to other people. For example, a highly aggressive person might insist that other people are highly aggressive.

Reaction formation is presenting oneself as the opposite of some undesirable characteristic that one really has. For example, a highly aggressive person might join an organization devoted to preventing violent actions.
