Determine the siding, soffit, and fascia required for the residence shown in Figure 15.18? The wall height is 8 feet 1 inch high. The residence has a hip roof with an overhang of 18 inches.

What will be an ideal response?

Length of wall = 26' + 36' + 13.5' + 4' + 12.5' + 32' = 124 ft

Ignore the openings

Area of wall = 124' x 8'1" = 1,002 sf

Order 10 sq of siding

Order 124 ft of starter strip

Order 4 outside corners 9' long

J-molding is required around the openings and at the top of the wall.

Allow 20' of J-molding per opening

J-molding for siding = 124' + 7 x 20' = 264'

Order 264' of J-molding

The area of the soffit equals the perimeter of the building times the overhang plus the
corners and the soffit by the front door.

Area of soffit = 124' x 1.5' + 4 corners x 1.5' x 1.5' + 12.5' x 4' = 245 sf

Order 3 sq of soffit

Order 124' of J-molding

Length of fascia = 2(1.5' + 36' + 1.5') + 2(1.5' + 26' + 1.5') = 136'

Order 136' of fascia
