Historical- The framers and most Americans knew the British system of bicameralism very well. The second reason was
Practical-. The framers had to create a two-chambered body to settle the conflict between the Virginia and the New Jersey Plans at Philadelphia in 1787.
Theoretical- the Framers favored a bicameral Congress in order that one house might act as a check on the other. Bicameralism is a reflection of federalism. Each state is equally represented in the Senate and each is represented in the line with its population of the House. The Framers saw bicameralism as a way to diffuse the powerof the congress and prevent it from overwhelming the other two branches of government.
