A piping and instrumentation drawing is a complete representation of the process and facilities. The P & ID includes a graphical illustration of the piping, equipment, and instrumentation. The basic components of a piping and instrument drawing are (1) the process legend, (2) foundation drawings, (3) elevation drawings, (4) electrical drawings, (5) equipment location drawings, (6) complex flow diagram, and (7) the piping and instrumentation drawing that includes all of the major flows, minor flows, process instrumentation, and operating information.
