In a short essay, discuss gap analysis

What will be an ideal response?

Gap analysis is a method for estimating a company's potential sales by identifying reasons for not serving markets adequately. When sales are lower than the estimated market potential for a given type of product, the company has potential for increased sales. The distribution gap represents sales lost to competitors who distribute where the company does not. The product line gap represents sales lost to competitors who have product variations the company does not have. The competitive gap is the remaining unexplained sales lost to competitors who may have a better image or lower prices.
