Describe the jigsaw classroom strategy for improving relationships among ethnically diverse students.

What will be an ideal response?

Aronson (1986) developed the concept of a "jigsaw classroom," in which students from different cultural backgrounds are placed in a cooperative group in which they have to construct different parts of a project to reach a common goal. Aronson used the term "jigsaw" because he saw the technique to be like a group of students cooperating to put different pieces together to complete a jigsaw puzzle. Team sports, drama productions, and music performances are examples of contexts in which students participate cooperatively to reach a common goal; however, the jigsaw technique also lends itself to group science projects, history reports, and other learning experiences with a variety of subject matters.
