Because a horse has more developed monocular vision than binocular vision, it sees a different picture out of each eye very well but cannot see as clear a picture with both eyes directly in front of it. Horses have circular vision, and each eye has its own circular field. These circles barely meet at a point in front of the horse. As a result, the horse cannot see what is directly in front of it. It must turn or lift its head to see objects within 4 to 6 feet of it. It also cannot see directly behind itself_
