Take another look at the games you reviewed for Exercise 2 and compare the art styles. What visual style do you want your game to reflect? Photoreal? Toon? Pixel-painted?

What will be an ideal response?

Students may refer to the games they researched in Exercise 2 (or do both exercises simultaneously) to determine the type of art style they wish to create for their original games. Students could create lists or spreadsheets containing game titles, styles, and genres to determine whether particular art styles would be a good match for their own game genres – but they ideally should be encouraged to experiment with using art styles that might deviate from what is expected. (Instructors focusing on Windows development may also want to use Exercise 5 from Chapter 5 [Mac], which covers naming conventions.)
