Discuss three major perspectives on the relationship of culture and organizational effectiveness.

What will be an ideal response?

Strong vs. weak cultures hypothesizes that strong cultures are effective cultures, and weak cultures are an indication of ineffectiveness. Yet as the text discusses, sometimes strong cultures are not nimble and able to adapt to needed organizational change. Research has also failed to confirm that strong cultures are always the most effective. The second approach is that situationally appropriate cultures are the most effective. In this idea, a fragmented culture might be best suited for a turbulent market while a more family culture might be suited for a less competitive external environment. The last approach is that adaptive cultures are the best – that cultures are able to change and evolve as products, markets, regulatory environments, or consumer tastes change.
