The goal of diversity within child welfare is to increase knowledge and appreciation of different cultures. In doing so, social workers are expected to understand family actions and interactions and to make culturally appropriate case decisions with regards to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, class, military affiliation, and refugee and immigrant status.
