Explain the Milankovitch Theory. What will be an ideal response? The Milankovitch Theory suggests that glaciation can be initiated by changes in three aspects of Earth’s orbit: orbital eccentricity, the tilt of the Earth’s axis, and the precession of the

equinoxes. These factors cause variation in the distribution of solar heat at any latitude
through time and can influence climate.

Pluvial lakes are an indirect effect of glaciation. They occur because cooler temperatures
cause increased precipitation and decreased evaporation during glacial periods. In contrast,
proglacial lakes form when meltwater collects adjacent to a glacial margin.
