What would you do to rectify this situation? Provide rationales for your actions

You receive a patient into the PACU and as the anaesthetist is handing over to you, you realise that you do not know what the surgery entailed or what the possible complications of that surgery might be.

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
The nurse must go on a fact-finding mission, asking the anaesthetist at the time of the handover, the more senior nurses in PACU or the surgeon/surgical registrar when they bring out the patient notes.
Knowing the specific possible complications that may occur for each procedure enables the nurse to observe for these alterations in the patient's vital signs and condition, thus facilitating a safer recovery experience, as anticipation and early detection of deterioration are illuminated.
