What is terrorism and what are the different types?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Terrorism is the systematic use of violence by a group in order to intimidate a population or coerce a government into granting its demands. Terrorists attempt to achieve their objectives through organized acts that spread fear and anxiety among the population, including bombing, kidnapping, hijacking, taking of hostages, and assassination. Terrorists consider violence necessary as a means of bringing widespread publicity to goals and grievances that are not being addressed through peaceful means. Belief in their cause is so strong that terrorists do not hesitate to strike despite knowing they will probably die in the act.
In the United States, terrorist acts take many forms and can be from domestic or foreign sources. Some domestic terrorist acts include those by Timothy McVeigh and the Unabomber. The most prominent foreign terrorist group is the Al-Qaeda network, which was responsible for the World Trade Center Tragedy.
