Summarize the factors that influence flow velocity

What will be an ideal response?

Channel gradient: when steeper, velocity is greater. Channel size, shape, and roughness influence the friction: greater friction means less velocity and more turbulence. A smooth channel allows more uniform flow. The discharge is the amount of water flowing in the channel, which is calculated by the velocity multiplied by the cross-sectional area.

A critically important part of the hydrologic cycle is the transpiration of water through plants into the atmosphere. This water has traveled from the roots up to the top leaves and then moves out as water vapor

In the case of some plants, such as redwood trees, this can be a distance of hundreds of feet. Explain how it is that water can move up naturally, when forces of gravity might make one think that this is impossible. What will be an ideal response
