The central route is based on evaluation of evidence, facts, and logic, such as evaluation of a scientific hypothesis or careful deliberation about which car to buy. The peripheral route features irrelevant appeals to emotion, such as endorsement by an attractive person or celebrity, association with colorful packaging, or an appeal to fear. People generally follow the peripheral route when deciding about something unimportant, or not worth the time to consider evidence carefully. For example, you might buy bottled drinks because of an entertaining advertisement.
