How does social intelligence and leadership relate to power?
What will be an ideal response?
Transactional, transformational, and charismatic leaders could be considered to be
more influential than authoritarian leaders because they have a higher social
intelligence. Their influence is obtained by initiating shared goals, building meaningful
relationships, and gaining the respect and esteem of others. Social intelligence is our
ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and understand the goals of others. Drawing from
the theory that leaders who treat their subordinates with respect, share power, and
generate a sense of camaraderie and trust are considered more just and fair. We might
conclude that depending on their psychological makeup, different types of leaders may exert their power to influence in different ways, which can lead to positive or negative
outcomes.
