Since the physical security program is by definition the domain of the physical security professional, this specific competency area is the one that involves the most extensive set of tasks. The physical security professional is the person responsible for designing and maintaining the effectiveness of those tasks. That includes the definition and deployment of all defense strategies, defense-in-depth schemes, and authorization functions for the protected, physical space. Those duties also involve management of the performance of the physical security system and assessment of the effectiveness of all physical security controls. In order to meet this requirement, the physical security professional undertakes a physical security planning process and then implements the appropriate set of approved controls based on the outcomes of that planning.
