Discuss ways that conflict can have positive effects on a group
What will be an ideal response?
Conflict is usually thought of negatively, but productive conflict can help a group
achieve better outcomes. One positive effect of conflict is that it can increase group openness. A
second positive effect of conflict is that it can enhance group involvement. Finally, conflict can
improve group cohesion. If a group can successfully overcome negativity the members may feel
more bonded to one another. Adopting mutually acceptable decisions can also increase group
cohesion.
