For an IRB to approve the use of deception, what are the three things researchers must show or demonstrate about their use of deception?

What will be an ideal response?

The researchers must show that (1) the deception is necessary, and the use of nondeceptive alternatives is not feasible, (2) there is no reasonable expectation for causing physical pain or severe emotional distress to participants as a result of the deception, and (3) participants are informed of the deception as early as possible, meaning at the end of the study, but no later than at the end of the data collection.
