Compare and contrast sensorineural hearing loss and tinnitus.

What will be an ideal response?

Sensorineural hearing loss happens because of damage to the cochlea, the auditory nerve, or the primary auditory cortex. This damage often occurs because of exposure to noise or as a side effect of certain drugs. This type of hearing loss can be slight or extreme. On the other hand, tinnitus usually happens when a neural signal is sent to the brain in the absence of the actual sound. Tinnitus can be caused by loud noises, such as fire alarms, but there are other causes as well. Like sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus can happen as a result of damage to the cochlea or auditory nerve.
