1. Self-enhancement efforts are intended to increase one's appeal to others. This might be done through describing one's positive traits, past success, and achievement, or explaining how one has overcome daunting obstacles. The focus of this tactic is to make the self socially desirable.
2. Other-enhancement efforts are intended to make others feel good about themselves. This might be done through compliments or flattery, an interest in the person, doing a small favor, seeking feedback or advice from the other, or expressing liking via nonverbal behavior (e.g., nodding, smiling).
