Student examples will vary. A sample answer follows.
First, I would chunk information into smaller packets rather than in chapters. Miller's 1956 study says that the human brain can hold between five and nine items in short-term memory at one time, so I would present only five to nine "chunks" per information "packet."
Second, I would place practice exercises after every chunk to help students move the information they learn from short-term memory into long-term memory as they go along. That way, they would be less likely to need to relearn everything for their tests.
