How is peer social preference assessed? How does one assess diversity in peer rejection?
What will be an ideal response?
In the traditional peer nomination paradigm, children are asked to nominate 3 children
they like and 3 that they dislike. This assessment yields 5 profiles: Peer Popularity,
Rejection, Neglect as well as Average and Controversial status. Children that are
disliked by their peers represent different profiles. Some are prone to bullying
(Rejected-Aggressive), others are shy and immature (Rejected Withdrawn), and some
are verbally aggressive and resort to vicious gossiping (Rejected-Aggressive
Withdrawn). These subtypes of peer rejection are assessed via collecting additional
academic and behavioral data on rejected children.
