Discuss how an owner of intellectual property protects those rights in other countries

U.S. laws protecting intellectual property do not apply to transactions in other countries. Generally, the owner of an intellectual property right must comply with each country's requirements to obtain from that country whatever protection is available. The requirements vary substantially from country to country, as does the degree of protection. The United States does belong to multinational treaties that try to coordinate the application of member nations' intellectual property laws. Examples are the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property for patent protection, the Paris Convention and the Trademark Law Treaty for trademark protection, and the Berne Convention for copyright protection. The U.N. World Intellectual Property Organization attempts to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world.
