Sometimes, a V-type engine can have a vacuum leak between the underside of the intake manifold and the crankcase. Describe one way to test for this.
What will be an ideal response?
To test for this type of leak, pinch off both the PCV valve hose to the manifold and the breather hose to the air cleaner. When the engine is running, if there is vacuum at the oil filler opening, an internal vacuum leak is indicated.
Another test for an internal leak uses propane. All PCV system hoses are closed off for this test. If the engine idle changes when propane is metered into the oil filler opening, the gas is entering the combustion chambers by way of an intake manifold leak.
