Explain the rock cycle. Include information on how the three major categories of rocks differ from each other
Igneous rocks form when magma cools and crystallizes, either at or below Earth's surface. If rock weathers at the surface, it can break down into sediments that collect, become deeply buried, and lithify to form sedimentary rocks. Like igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks can rise and weather, or reach greater depths and become metamorphosed. Metamorphic rocks can rise to the surface and weather, or they can even reach greater depths at higher temperature, and melt to form magma.
