What is the purpose of a legislature?
What will be an ideal response?
Varies. In a system of separated powers, different branches assume different responsibilities for governing. According to the state constitution, which mirrors that of the U.S. Constitution, the legislature holds the power to make laws or set policies. Their actions are also subject to the approval of the governor, and if challenged in a court of law, their decisions may be reviewed by state judges or justices of the state Supreme Court. In a very broad sense, they are supposed to solve problems that arise from the economic, social, and political conditions of almost 40 million people who must work and live with each other. With the help of the governor and other members of the executive branch, they decide who gets what, when, and how.
