Explain the operation of the radiator cap pressure and vacuum valves.
What will be an ideal response?
The pressure valve opens to expel excess coolant vapor and pressure to a recovery tank. The action prevents excessive cooling system pressure that could cause damage. As the engine cools off, cooling system pressure will fall from positive to negative pressure (vacuum). The vacuum valve opens to admit coolant from the recovery tank, allowing the cooling system pressure to equal atmospheric pressure.
