In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court declared in Rodriguez v. San Antonio that there is no constitutional right to an equal education under the Fourteenth Amendment. Briefly explain how this decision affected school financing.

What will be an ideal response?

Advocates for school finance equity have litigated at the state level. They argue that the current method of funding schools through local property taxes means that affluent communities can spend significantly more on education than low-income areas, and that these spending differences violate students' constitutional right to an adequate education (per the wording of their state's constitution) in lower-income schools.
As a result of these legal efforts, 27 states now have financing plans where low-income districts receive an average of 8% more funding than high-income districts (LaFortune et al., 2015).
