Why are neonates allowed to suckle right before general anesthesia?
What will be an ideal response?
Neonates are highly susceptible to hypoglycemia, which can be prevented by allowing them to suckle. Also suckling will keep the neonate calm and reduce the production of stress hormones thereby reducing the amount of anesthetic required to keep the animal asleep.
