Define and describe the role of a rational set in developing student understanding of concepts
What will be an ideal response?
A rational set is a purposefully selected and organized group of examples and nonexamples used to teach a concept in the Concept Attainment model, by demonstrating critical and variable concept attributes. The use of a rational set helps students to not overgeneralize (i.e., students might think nonexamples are examples), undergeneralize (i.e., students might believe nonexamples are examples), or misconceptualize (i.e., students might confuse examples with nonexamples and vice versa).
