What are the five steps in the writing process, as suggested by several researchers? How are they often modified in real-life writing situations?

What will be an ideal response?

The writing process can be broken down in a number of ways to represent the various processes involved in putting thoughts down in writing. In general, the term refers to the steps and instructions that writers use to think through their ideas, draft their words, and polish their text. Some researchers, including Graves and Emig, have described this series of steps: prewriting, composing, revising, editing, and publishing. These steps are not strictly followed in real-life writing settings. The steps are not linear, they are recursive. Writers may revise after editing, take up prewriting activities again after revising, edit while composing, or start all over with a new draft. These steps provide a good guideline for students.
