How do measures of central tendency and variation complement each other when describing data?

What will be an ideal response?

The two types of measures work together to give us a full picture of the characteristics of the data. Measures of central tendency provide a clear picture of the typical case in the data—the middle of the distribution on a frequency distribution. They do not tell us anything about the shape of the rest of the distribution. Measures of dispersion tell us about the shape of the rest of the distribution—how the data are distributed around the typical case. Without one or the other we would not have a complete picture.
