Discuss the development of political parties in Texas.
What will be an ideal response?
Though thoroughly used in the rest of the United States, political party labels were not used in Texas until prior to the Civil War. There has been little political party competition in Texas. For most of Texas’s history, the Democratic Party dominated. In contemporary Texas, the Republican Party dominates. In both cases, the level of electoral domination has been so significant that the less influential political party has not bothered to expend the same time and resources in getting its candidates elected as would have been seen in elections with a more viable chance for that party to win.
